We have been looking into how to make ordering on our website a little easier and ways to broaden our customer base. The first thing we are looking at is to use a USDA inspected facility to process our hogs, more traveling involved but widens what can be done with the meat such as farmers markets. This will allow the buyer to only pay one party (Shining CD Pork) instead of making payments to Shining CD Pork and the butcher. Still working on the details but believe it will be easier on both parties and would allow for Shining CD Pork to pick-up the customers meat and deliver it when that option is chosen on the website. USDA inspected facilities will allow the customer to do what they wish with their meat because it will not be stamped " Not for Sale " on each package.
The second change we are looking to do is offer smaller quantities such as 20 lb boxes that can be shipped for a small cost in Cal. overnight and two day in other states. This might help with the customer that don't want or don't have the space for a whole or half hog.
The processing fees will be a little higher of course, the government just got involved. But it does look like to us that it would be money will spent by all, not often that can be said when the government gets involved.
The processor we are looking at would be closer to the bay area and Sacramento area. This could make picking up your meat cheaper for you and less time on your part, the bad side would be you might miss a opportunity to visit us and our ranch.
